Alte Universität (old University)
With just under 200 students, the Albert Ludwig University opened its many doors in 1457, as it was spread across several buildings in the city.
In the middle of the 16th century, the "Albertina" created its first central administration building, today's New Town Hall. Where the first students were already living in "Bursen" at this time, the "Alte Uni" replaced the previous location in 1773, until the new main university building was completed in 1911. There are currently still a few research departments in the old university building as well as the Uniseum, a museum and forum on the history of the Albert Ludwig University.
