Kunstverein Freiburg (art society Freiburg)

Art has the upper hand here! In the 400 square meter hall of the former Marienbad, contemporary art finds a very special exhibition space.

Nine-metre-high, whitewashed walls and the cool austerity of the 1938 extension to the municipal swimming pool form a brilliant backdrop. The effect of paintings, photographs, sculptures and installations is further accentuated here. Another special feature: each exhibition can also be viewed from a bird's eye view from the gallery. Where the water surface of the swimming pool used to be, a floor has now been installed. Above it is the impressive exhibition space, below it the former swimming pool serves as a storage area.

The Kunstverein Freiburg (art society) is one of the oldest and most renowned in Germany. Its program history of the 19th and 20th centuries reads like a "Who's Who" of classical modernism. Since 1950, the Kunstverein Freiburg (art society Freiburg) has developed into a nationally and internationally renowned institution. It deals exclusively with current trends in contemporary art, which is characterized by conscious observation of social and political issues.
